Mango Smoothie Bowl with Banana & oats Toppings

Mango Smoothie Bowl, this is a kid friendly recipe, so go on grab your kids and get them involved but remember to adjust the quantities to fit your family size. I love smoothies and make them quite often. I decided to change it up and instead of a regular glass smoothie…I served this in a bowl with chopped bananas, extra mangoes, some raw oats, and garnished with mint leaves.Mango smoothie bowl

This recipe is extremely easy to make and you can adjust it to fit your needs. Other fruits you can use are strawberries, bananas, papaya, avocado, pineapples list is endless or you can even do combinations i.e mango strawberry , banana mango, am sure whatever fruits you have will work; except for maybe acidic fruits like oranges, grapefruit and the likes. Personally I find lactose based products and acidic based products don’t combine too well… unless making a dressing or marinade. Now back to the smoothie Bowl;-)

OH wait another great addition would be ginger see here how to best peel ginger and my tropical ginger smoothie…. and now the recipe!

Recipe: yields 600ml  serves 2.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2  glass/cup natural yoghurt (about 375 ml)
  • 1/2 cup milk/water( basically to reduce the thickness of the yoghurt)
  • 1 large very ripe mango ( or 2 medium ripe mangoes) – chopped
  • 1-2 ripe bananas (chopped)
  • 4-6 tbsp oats
  • 2-4 mint leaves(optional)

Method:

  1. In a blender combine yoghurt, milk and mangoes and blend until smooth.
  2. Evenly pour into two bowls and arrange the bananas and sprinkle the oats on top.
  3. Garnish with mint leaves.

Oats:

I used the regular oats from the packet the instant/quick oats as they are commonly known. I like to consume my oats raw whenever am having them with yogurt or blend them in smoothies. Use whatever suits you, less or more I used 3 tbsp for each bowl but then again i love oats.

Now they might be an acquired taste but never say never…try it with the recipe or alone with natural yoghurt  drizzled with honey, add some raisins and some cinnamon wouldn’t hurt:-)

Tip:

Please ensure you use ripe mangoes and not under ripe ones…so as to ensure maximum natural sweetness and avoid additional sweeteners.

I seem to always have mint leaves available in my kitchen I guess I just love the freshness, hmmm perhaps I should write a dedicated post for them?
